GILBERT, Ariz.---  A woman asleep in her home Sunday night says a man broke in and attempted to sexually assault her.

Gilbert police are not sure if the suspect randomly or specifically targeted the victim, who is in her 30s.

"The good news is she did fight back aggressively and he did flee, but it is terrorizing," said Gilbert police Sgt. Bill Balafas.

The attack happened in a neighborhood near Val Vista Drive and Warner Road around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers hope someone else in the neighborhood may have been outside and witnessed the suspect running from the home.

The victim did not get a good look at her attacker since it was dark inside her home.

Report any suspicious behavior from that evening to the Gilbert Police Department at 480-503-6500 or www.gilbertaz.gov/police/submitatip. Contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS to remain anonymous.
