GLENDALE, Ariz.---  Larry Maldonado, his wife, and other family members packed up their van in Glendale Monday night, for an unexpected trip south of the border.

Maldonado's daughter-in-law, Yanira, is being held in a prison in Nogales, Mexico.

The 41-year-old mother of seven has been in custody for several days. Mexican police claim they found marijuana under a bus seat, as she and her husband, Gary, were heading back to Arizona.

The couple had been in Mexico for a family funeral.

Under the advice of their original attorneys, they tried to bribe the court with $5,000. It did not work.

Now, they hope to use other evidence to set Yanira free.

Larry will bring text message records to Yanira's court appearance Tuesday.  He hopes they will prove Yanira and Gary were, indeed, in Mexico for a funeral, and not there to buy drugs.

In addition, the Maldonados hope to find other witnesses from the bus, along with video of Yanira boarding with no bag and nothing in her hands.

The family says the judge could toss the case Tuesday, or render a decision by Friday.
