PHOENIX -- Arizona sports fans are disheartened over a string of losses by both the Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Suns.

The Cardinals' 58-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday had coach Ken Whisenhunt asking a reporter at a post-game press conference if he could play quarterback next week.

"It's really sad," said Jeff Thalblum of Paradise Valley Mall's Free Agents Sports store. "They might as well put a lid on it and come back next year."

Thalblum said Cardinals merchandise is not moving this holiday shopping season, so he's stocking his shelves with out-of-state team memorabilia.

The Cardinals are not alone, he said, when it comes to Arizona fans abandoning their teams.

"We offered a 25 percent discount if anyone could name the starting five Phoenix Suns and no one could," Thalblum said.

Hockey fans, meanwhile, have been completely shut out, thanks to the ongoing NHL lockout.

The city of Glendale estimates each canceled Coyotes game means a $60,000 revenue loss for Jobing.com Arena. Nearby businesses feel a big effect, too.

"Traveling hockey fans come in two days before a game and stay two days later," McFadden's manager Scott Scheinblum said. "It brings us direct business since they all stay at the nearby hotels."

Last week's Bruce Springsteen concert brought in a big crowd, but the next sure-bet event at Jobing.com Arena is a The Who concert in February.

As for bright sports on the Arizona sports scene, fans point to ASU and U of A baskebtall teams.

Plus, the Arizona Rattlers Arena Football team is hoping frustrated sports fans show new interest in their season, which begins in March.

The league has "new life," and the team is "better than ever," Rattlers Chief Operating Officer Joe Windham told 3TV.

The Rattlers are coming off two consecutive trips to the Arena Bowl, including a win this past year.
