TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Tempe Police Department issued an Amber Alert on Tuesday evening for a 13-year-old Tempe girl who was allegedly abducted by her non-custodial father, Ernest Gerard Babers, 37.

Jazmin Babers has been located, is safe, and the abductor is in law enforcement custody, according to officials with the Tempe Police Department.

They say the teen found her father waiting for her at her bus stop Tuesday afternoon. He ordered her into what police believe is a stolen BMW SUV.

The girl called 911 and texted her mother from the road, saying she was scared and nervous, and that her father was taking her to California.

Officers say Babers has no parental rights and has a history of mental illness.

After the Amber Alert was issued, a DPS officer near Quartzsite, Ariz., spotted the SUV and was able to arrest Babers without incident.

Tempe detectives will question Babers in Quartzsite and then bring the girl back to her mother in Tempe.

Babers' motives are unknown.
