PHOENIX -- A Phoenix couple is saddened someone cut their dog’s tail off.
Jack and Sonia Fradin said their dog, Samuel, was attacked Wednesday.
"It looked like a massacre," said Jack Fradin.
Jack came home from an errand to find his home covered in blood.
Sonia was in the house when Samuel was outside and she heard him barking.
"… and then he stopped barking and started whimpering," said Sonia.
The dog’s tail was bleeding and looked shorter.
The Fradins took Samuel to the vet.
Samuel’s tail had been severed and would have to be partially amputated.
"And when that happened it just broke my heart," said Sonia.
Samuel is now wearing a cone around his neck to prevent him from licking the wound.
The Fradins suspect someone in the neighborhood may have cut their dog's tail off.
A Phoenix police officer came to investigate and didn't find any evidence of that.
The vet bill was more than $300.
Samuel is recovering but the Fradins are still shook up looking for answers.
"It just cuts the heart out of you," said Jack.
