PEORIA, Ariz. -- Adamadi Garcia, 5, her brother Jordan, 10, and their unborn sister will grow up without their father.
Cuauhtemoc Garcia, 27, drowned in Lake Pleasant in Peoria over the weekend.
Using a translator, Garcia's pregnant wife, Maria, described to 3TV what happened to her husband.
"We just noticed that he went for the raft and he didn't ask for help or anything and the next thing we noticed was that he didn’t come back out of the lake," Maria said.
Maria said her husband was a good swimmer but recently he wasn't feeling well.
"It's not confirmed what exactly happened, but we think and suspect it's a heart attack because he had been complaining of shortness of breath," Maria said.
Garcia’s family has a history of heart problems.
He would have been 28 next week.
So far this summer, Garcia is the fifth to drown in Lake Pleasant.
A captain with the Peoria Fire Department said calls for help have picked up this summer compared to last year.
Garcia recently became a U.S. citizen.
"We want to make sure people know he wasn’t out there getting drunk with his friends," Maria said. "He was out there with his family."
Minutes before his death he asked his wife to take a picture of him solo.
Maria said that’s something he’s never asked her to do.
