PHOENIX -- A Valley Marine and his bomb-sniffing dog are back in Phoenix.

The pair arrived Tuesday night at Sky Harbor International Airport after spending eight months on the front lines in the Middle East.

Ellie the dog was trained in the United States and toured Afghanistan twice.

Ellie sniffed out bombs for Corporal Zak Lindblom, 21, and his platoon.

The dog is now retired and Lindblom was first in line to adopt her.

They recently met again in Virginia and then flew home to Phoenix.

Before Ellie was discharged, she was promoted to sergeant, a higher rank than her new owner.

Lindblom is still in the Marines and celebrated his 21st birthday this week.
