PHOENIX -- I’m sharing my shopping tips at valley stores all week long. In case you missed Monday’s Walmart segment you can check it out here.
Today we’re talking Safeway. Be sure to download the Just for U app to your phone via iTunes or Google Play. You also can log in on your computer.
The app ties directly to your Safeway Club Card and gives you discounts based on what you buy on a regular basis. So even if an item isn’t on sale, it very well may be on sale for you. The savings are significant.
On my app I had free Pillsbury cookies to add to my card, a gallon of milk for $1.99, a veggie tray for $4.50, and lots of other great deals that tie in with my shopping habits. You’ll save around 20 percent (I’ve saved more than that at times.), and you can add the deals while you’re shopping. No planning ahead. It actually makes grocery shopping more fun.
Another app you won’t want to miss is ibotta. This app allows you to save even more on things you’re already buying (on top of any sales or coupons or Just for U deals).
It works at Safeway, Costco,Walmart, Target, Fry’s, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General, Sam’s Club, Whole Foods, Sprouts, PetSmart, even AMC movie theaters. You add products to your app and learn about them. When you buy them, you take a picture of your receipt, and you’ll get the rebate amount directly into your ibotta account. You can cash out once you hit at least $5 and send the money directly to your Paypal account or get Starbucks or iTunes gift cards.
Examples of ibotta rebates at Safeway (each store has a list):
- Earn $0.50 when you buy a gallon of white milk (any brand) and take a poll and take a survey (takes seconds)
- Earn $1 when you buy O Organics salad, learn a face, how to, and post on Facebook
- Earn $1.25 when you buy Banana Boat sunscreen, play trivia, and post on Facebook
There are 88 possible rebates at Safeway and if there are items on your list, you can get money back. The savings add up fast, especially when you get in the habit.
Another tip to keep in mind when you shop Safeway is that all manufacturers' coupons are worth at least $1. You don’t need to get the Sunday paper to enjoy the savings, you can head over here to find a huge assortment of printable coupons. Print only the coupons you’ll use. that keeps down the coupon clutter.
When you match coupons to sales, you’ll do well. For example, Honey Nut Cheerios are on sale for $1.88 a box through Tuesday, May 13. Use this coupon for $0.50 off a box of Honey Nut Cheerios, it’ll be worth $1. That means an $0.88 box of Honey Nut Cheerios. It’s pretty hard to beat that price.
Safeway also has fuel points. You can earn up to $1 off per gallon at Safeway, Chevron, and Texaco stations. Head over here for more details.
I'll be back tomorrow with my favorite shopping tips at Fry's!
