The creators of Regiftable.com and NationalRegiftingDay.com invite you to join them in the spirit of sharing and regift for a cause this holiday season. The holidays, and the end of the tax year, motivate many consumers to donate money to their favorite charities. In fact, according to the Charity Navigator, more than one half of all charitable donations are made during the last six weeks of the year.

For the past several years, Money Management International, the creative minds behind Regiftable.com, has promoted regifting as a way to save money and the environment during the holidays. This year, in honor of National Regifting Day, they’re shaking things up a bit and encouraging regifters to regift to charities in addition to the typical regift exchange. Offering regifts to those in need (and encouraging others to do the same), is one way to give back to the community and support the trend of going green for the holidays. Every little step can make a huge difference!

For help selecting a charitable organization, visit www.charitynavigator.org. A little research up front will make sure that your dollars are put to good use. If the process of selecting a charity seems daunting, remember that everyone benefits from giving:

• Involving your children in the selection of and contribution to a charity teaches them valuable lessons about giving from their heart, not just about the value of a dollar.

• By contributing to many groups and nonprofit organizations, you have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life by furthering a personal cause.

• Charitable gifts made to qualified organizations are tax-deductible. But be sure your organization meets IRS guidelines, because there may be different tax breaks when you donate certain types of assets to charity.

Keep in mind that there are still rules to regifting even when giving to a charity. So read up on the rules of regifting before you reduce, reuse, recycle…regift! Share your “regifting for a cause” story on Regiftable.com for your chance to win!
