PHOENIX -- There is some pretty good news to report from the Arizona lottery.
Officials closed out their 2013 fiscal year with a record shattering $692.9 million dollars in sales. That represents a 7.2% increase over the last fiscal year.
While the record sales was the largest in Arizona lottery history, it also means a sizeable boost to the state economy.
$176 million went to help support a variety of programs that include education, health and public welfare.
Arizona lottery officials credit much of the success to the two biggest jackpots in Powerball history.
You may recall a winning $587.5 million ticket went to a winner in fountain hills.
Retailers also benefited big time because they got commissions worth $47 million.
