GILBERT, Ariz. -- Christine Goodyear thought hiring a shuttle service to get her and her husband to Sky Harbor Airport would help alleviate stress.
“Cheaper, less problems getting in and out. We were trying to save time and money,” Christine said.
She and her husband, Bill, were flying to Chicago for a high school reunion and Christine wanted to visit her dad.
“Seeing my dad was very important because my mom had just passed away and this was the first time I'd seen him since my mom passed,” she said.
The day of their flight, the Goodyears gathered their bags and stood on the front porch at 6 a.m. to wait for the shuttle they'd reserved through an Apache Junction company called Arizona Value Shuttle.
“She gave me the price, she gave me a senior discount so it was going to be $34,” she said.
But when 6 a.m. came and went, and their shuttle hadn't shown up, the Goodyears got worried.
“We were getting frantic,” Christine said.
Christine said she called Arizona Value Shuttle which the Goodyears say couldn't explain not showing up on time.
Regardless, the couple made the split decision to drive themselves to the airport and to make their flight. They left their car in short term parking.
They made their flight, but when they returned from their trip, they had to pay the price of parking their own car at the airport, $275.
The Goodyears say Arizona Value Shuttle agreed to pay the bill and even told her Christine that a check was in the mail. But she said that refund never showed up, so she emailed 3 On Your Side.
“I felt like somebody just slapped me in the face!” she said.
3 On Your Side contacted Arizona Value Shuttle which said they did show up at the Goodyears home the morning of their flight -- but acknowledged they were an hour late.
While we never got a clear answer about why the mix-up happened, we did get a check issued to the Goodyears for $275.
“$275, the price I paid to park. Thank you so much," said Christine.
