PHOENIX -- With the July 4 holiday approaching, 3 On Your Side has a reminder that fireworks and pets usually don't mix.

It happens year after year, numerous animals, mostly dogs, find themselves at Valley animal shelters.  The reason? Fireworks send pets running for safety, so if you own a pet keep the following tips in mind for this coming holiday.

First, make sure your animal is wearing some kind of identification tag.  Obviously, that makes it a lot easier to get a lost pet back to the right owner.

Try not to take your pet to a firework show, you're asking for problems.

And if you do, don't even think about leaving it in the car. The summer heat, even at night, can be deadly. Instead, leave your animals inside at home with your TV on to drown out any outside noise.
