PHOENIX -- Cyber crooks are always on the prowl to take your hard earned money. So 3 On Your Side has a consumer warning on what you need to look out for.
The Federal trade commission is alerting consumers that the latest scam begins with a phone call from a cyber crook that can get your name and basic information from public directories.
The crook then calls you claiming to be a computer tech associated with a well known and legitimate company like Microsoft for example.
They might hit you with a barrage of technical terms to confuse you at first.
They'll then tell you a virus or malware has been detected on your computer and will trick you into giving them remote access or perhaps even convincing you into paying for worthless software to remove a virus you don't even have.
Their tactics are designed to "scare" you into believing they can fix your problem.
But you should never give up control of your computer to a third party who calls you out of the blue.
