CHANDLER -- A Chandler woman says she paid nearly $300 for a new ice maker, but it's still not making ice.

Heather Erndt says she thought it would be a simple repair so she did what most people would do. She called an appliance repair company.

But even after the company recommended installing a new ice maker inside her refrigerator, she says she still has no ice.

Erndt has resorted to making ice the old-fashioned way all because her ice maker doesn't work.

So, she called a company called Appliance Specialists Service Company and says she spoke to the owner, Bill Emerson.

"He sent a tech, a repair specialist, out to my house," Erndt said. "He looked at the ice maker. He told me he believed I needed a whole new one."

Erndt said she needed ice so she agreed to have a new ice maker installed at a cost of nearly $300 and thought it would be fixed.

"Morning came, I had no ice so I gave him a call again and I said, 'Hey, I don't have any ice. Are you going to send somebody out?'" Erndt said. "He said that they would."

But Erndt says instead of the technician coming back out, he called and informed her that she might need a new sensor in addition to the ice maker.

"I said, 'What do you mean, my sensor? You said it was my ice maker yesterday and now you're telling me it's my sensor. So how do I know it was my ice maker to begin with? It could be just my sensor and how do you know that when you haven't come back out?'" Erndt said.

Erndt says she was upset, claiming the technician should have diagnosed the sensor first before she handed over all that money for a new ice maker.

Unwilling to pay for a new sensor, she called the owner of Appliance Specialists.

"And he said, 'Well, you were unwilling to pay for the sensor,' and I said, 'Well, I don't have a working ice maker. You said you guaranteed your work,'" Erndt said.

Erndt says Appliance Specialists offered to install a new sensor just as long as she paid for the $75 part, which was the company's cost, and the company would waive the labor costs.

But Erndt claims she should not have to pay anything more and contacted 3 On Your Side.

"I said, 'I don't have any more money to spend on an ice maker. I've already spent $283,'" Erndt said. "And I said, 'I don't have any more money to spend on this.'"

3 On Your Side found out Appliance Specialists Service Company has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau -- mainly for repair issues.

We contacted Emerson, the company owner, who told us he did nothing wrong and insisted that Erndt needed a new ice maker and a new sensor, as well. Without that, the ice maker won't work.

Regardless, Emerson offered once again to install the sensor at his cost, right around $75. It's an offer Erndt refused before and even with 3 On Your Side's involvement, she says she'll refuse it again.

"I paid $283.45 for nothing and I got nothing," she said.

Appliance Specialists says the offer of replacing the sensor at cost still stands, but Erndt says she will find another repair company to get her ice maker running.
