PHOENIX - Technical Sergeant Efren Lopez is a combat photographer for the U.S. Air Force who recently returned from deployment to Afghanistan.  In the photo gallery below, Lopez shares an impressive array of images documenting military life in Afghanistan, the Afghan people, the cities, the countryside, and the war.

Lopez was the runner-up in the Military First Combat Camera Workshop in 2004 and his work has been featured in several publications, including the book Arizona 24/7 by Rick Smolan and David Elliot Cohen.

In 2008 Lopez was awarded First Place in the Professional Photography category at the Arizona State Fair sponsored by Arizona Highways Magazine.

In the 2009 Military Photographer of the Year competition one of the photos from Afghanistan during a combat mission was awarded honorable mention.

An exhibit featuring photographs by Lopez from Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan will be displayed in Monterey, California in December 2010.    

In his civilian life, Lopez resides in Arizona and teaches photography at Phoenix College. He was born in Guatemala City.
