PHOENIX – A 25-year-old father is facing murder and child abuse charges in the death of his infant daughter.

On July 22, police officers responded to Phoenix Children's Hospital concerning an injured 4-month-old girl who was brought to the hospital by her parents.

When the officers spoke to the father, Amos Carle Andreas, he said he had fallen asleep with the child on his chest and she fell off onto the floor the day before, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. The mother was at work when this happened.

The baby was hospitalized for her injuries and died on Aug. 15.

The forensic pediatrician at the hospital told detectives that the injuries the child sustained were consistent with being shaken and not from a fall.

Thompson said the detectives re-interviewed Amos and he admitted that he shook the baby twice after she fell to the floor.

Andreas was arrested on Monday and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of child abuse charges.

He is being held on $207,000 bond.
