Wheat prices are advancing after Russia extended its export ban on the grain until next year's harvest. That's nurturing hopes of more robust U.S. wheat sales to other countries.
Wheat for December delivery rose 5 cents Thursday to settle at $7.1375 a bushel.
About 20 percent of Russia's wheat crop has been lost because of a devastating drought and wildfires that prompted the country to ban exports. The government is extending that ban to make sure the crops have recovered.
Russia was the world's third-largest exporter of wheat in 2009. The ban is sending buyers to new sources such as the United States.
Other commodities are mostly higher.
