PHOENIX -- One of the men responsible for killing an Arizona State University student in 2010 has been sentenced to several years behind bars.

On Friday, Marion Patterson was ordered to spend 17 years in prison for second-degree murder.

Patterson and Louis Eugene Harper were arrested for shooting and killing 21-year-old Zachary Marco on Oct. 17, 2010 near the ASU campus in Tempe.

Police suspected that Patterson and Harper killed Marco for his laptop computer and cell phone.

Authorities would eventually find Marco’s laptop, computer bag, and some papers and were able to use fingerprints to tie Patterson and Harper to the crime.

Patterson pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder charge in February.

Harper pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and armed robbery in October. He has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 25 years.
