YUMA, Ariz. – Police have arrested the son of a man who reportedly fled to Mexico following a fatal shooting in Yuma.

Modesto Cortes, 18, was booked into jail for hindering prosecution.

Police said Cortes assisted his father with evading capture and withheld information about his father's whereabouts.

Yuma police said Modesto Cortes-Serrillo, 44, got into a fight with Santiago Olivo-Diaz, 43, inside the Lin's Grand Buffet near 16th Street and Pacific Avenue Sunday night.

Witnesses told police Olivo-Diaz ran outside and Cortes-Serrillo shot him multiple times.

Cortes-Serrillo fled the scene in a black 1996 Toyota Camry. Police later found it abandoned in San Luis, Ariz.

Police said Cortes-Serrillo's daughter drove him to Mexico and then returned to the United States. Daisy Cortes, 21, was arrested on Monday and also faces a charge of hindering prosecution.

Cortes-Serrillo has not been found. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
