PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) -- Prescott has named Acting Yuma Fire Chief Dennis Light as the city's permanent fire chief.
The Daily Courier reports that Prescott officials announced Friday that Light had officially accepted the position.
Light says he hopes to return the department to a sense of normalcy following the deaths last summer of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot crew members.
Light has been assistant chief of operations for the Yuma Fire Department for 12 years. He became interim fire chief in May when the department's chief departed.
Eric Kriwer had been filling the role of Prescott fire chief since Dan Fraijo stepped down in November.
Light was chosen from 43 applicants, including former Prescott Police Chief Mike Kabbel.
Light is expected to start his new role sometime in mid-June.
