PHOENIX -- A strong winter storm moved into Arizona Saturday night with wind, rain, heavy snow, and thunderstorms impacting many parts of the state.  Heavy snow continues across the eastern portions of the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains along the cold front. Significant snowfall is likely this afternoon into tonight as showers develop behind the system

A Winter Weather Advisory above 5000 feet remains in effect until 5 p.m. this afternoon for the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range and northwest deserts of Arizona.  Total snow accumulations: an additional 3 to 5 inches above
5000 feet with lesser amounts down to 3500 feet.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.

Storm accumulations by late Sunday evening will range from 14 to 22 inches above 7,000 feet, 10 to 16 inches from 6,000 to 7,000 feet and 5 to 10 inches from 5,000 to 6,000 feet. An inch or two of snow is possible with any heavier showers as low as 4000 feet, but this will not be widespread.
