SELIGMAN, Ariz. -- Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly transporting 10 pounds of marijuana.
A YCSO deputy pulled over a silver Ford Focus sedan for a lane change violation on eastbound Interstate 40, east of Seligman, Ariz. While questioning the driver, Jamarl Cooper of Louisiana, 25, the deputy smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle.
A K-9 partner came to sniff the vehicle and showed a strong alert on the driver’s side.
Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered a duffel bag holding 10 plastic bags of marijuana, weighing 1 pound each, in the trunk. There was another duffel bag in the trunk containing a .45-caliber handgun and more than $2,000.
Once the marijuana was found, Cooper acknowledged he was transporting the marijuana for sales, police said.
Cooper was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center for charges of transportation and possession of marijuana for sale and possession of a firearm. He is currently in custody on a $35,000 bond.
