GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A woman has died after being hit by a motorcyclist in Glendale Wednesday night, according to police.

Matilde Chacon, 61, was crossing Glendale Avenue from south to north near 49th Avenue around 7:15 p.m. when she was hit by the eastbound motorcycle, police said. She was reportedly not in a crosswalk.

Chacon's sister said she was on her way to church when she was struck.

The Glendale woman was transported to John C. Lincoln Hospital in extremely critical condition.

"I saw the lady just flip in the air, and then by the time he stopped, he like had dragged her," said witness Jasmine Contreras. "We stopped the car, put the hazards on. We ran out there. Both me and my mom were on the phone with 911."

The 34-year-old motorcyclist had minor injuries. Police said he remained at the scene and was not impaired.

The collision is under investigation. Speed is not believed to be a factor.
