Woman rescued from Shaw Butte after fall

PHOENIX -- A woman was rescued from Shaw Butte Saturday afternoon after falling during her hike, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The Phoenix and Peoria fire departments responded about 4 p.m.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Tony Mure said a 44-year-old woman was hiking near the top of the mountain when she fell backward and injured her ankle. She was unable to hike down.

Rescue technicians carried the woman down the mountain using a Stokes basket and big wheel.

she was transported to a local hospital.
