SUPERIOR, Ariz. -- A pedestrian died after being hit by a commercial truck in Superior Monday night, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
Elaine J. Romero, 47, of Superior, was struck on U.S. Highway 60 and died instantly shortly before 8 p.m.
Investigators said Matthew Hydock, 29, of Eloy, was driving a commercial truck pulling a carnival amusement trailer at approximately 45 mph when Romero ran or walked in front of him in an area without a crosswalk or intersection.
A witness reported that Romero walked out in front of the truck without warning. Other witnesses said she was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The investigation showed that Hydock was impaired by both marijuana and pain medication at the time of the collision, according to PCSO spokesman Tim Gaffney.
A blood sample was taken from Hydock and submitted to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory for analysis.
At this time, no arrest has been made and charges are pending the results of the blood test.
