SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of stealing a vehicle from an 80-year-old man in Surprise.

Glendale resident Theresa Ramirez, 34, was taken into custody March 14 near 69th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix after an investigation by the Surprise and Phoenix police departments.

Police say Ramirez hopped inside the man's vehicle shortly after he went inside a convenience store on Bell Road near El Mirage Road. He had left the car running.

The vehicle theft was captured on security cameras.

The Phoenix Police Department recovered the vehicle at a traffic stop Feb. 25 and notified the Surprise Police Department. Surprise investigators responded to the scene and determined the driver did not steal the car.

Investigators eventually tied Ramirez to the crime.

A man who was with Ramirez when she was taken into custody was also arrested.

Police said 35-year-old Paul Guajardo, also of Glendale, was detained after a foot chase which left a detective with minor injuries. He was allegedly in possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.
