PHOENIX -- Winners of two major Arizona lottery jackpots claimed their prizes on Saturday, Aug. 24, the Arizona Lottery said Tuesday.
Three coworkers in the healthcare field won the $4.8 million The Pick jackpot . After splitting the jackpot equally three ways, each winner received a little over $1 million before taxes.
The winners have worked together for 12 years and have asked to stay anonymous.
A retailer at 10989 E. Dynamite Blvd. in Scottsdale, Ariz. sold the winning The Pick ticket.
Joseph Waskel of Sun Lakes won $555,000 from the Fantasy 5 jackpot. After Waskel and his wife purchased 20 Fantasy 5 Quick Pick tickets, Waskel’s wife checked the numbers in the Sunday newspaper. The first ticket matched the winning numbers.
Waskel and his wife have been married more than 37 years and plan to spend their winnings on a home remodeling and investments. Both are retired.
The couple purchased their Fantasy 5 ticket at the Chandler Heights AM-PM convenience store located at 5050 S. Arizona Ave. in Chandler, Ariz.
"It's exciting that two of our in-state games were both hit at such high jackpots," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "It was a thrill to meet each winner when they came in to claim their prize."
