TEMPE, Ariz. -- Strong winds in Tempe on Tuesday caused headaches for some vendors at Arizona State University's graduation.
For the graduates, Tuesday’s wind gusts ruffled some hairstyles and blew up a couple of gowns here and there, but the new grads say it was not a big deal.
"Luckily, it slowed down by the time the ceremony was done; it affected my dress a little bit, made it fly up,” said Alexandra Evans, an ASU grad.
But for vendors like Tony Pilutik with Commencement Flowers, the wind proved more than an inconvenience. Pilutik was selling flowers outside of the graduation ceremonies and the powerful gusts affected his business.
"This morning it blew and blew the roof off and damaged some of our other displays,” Pilutik said. "Fortunately, it didn't get destroyed and as soon as I get some assistance, we are going to replace it."
Pilutik said he will be selling flowers for grads for the rest of the evening and hopes his tent stays put with bricks that are tying it down.
