MESA , Ariz. -- An East Valley high school is getting some much needed help from the Phoenix Suns and CenturyLink, after thousands of dollars worth of sports equipment was stolen from campus!!
Westwood High School was targeted by burglars just before school started this year. Thousands of dollars of sports equipment was snatched from campus and was never recovered.
Now, thanks to a partnership between CenturyLink and the Phoenix Suns, the school will be able to replace some of what was stolen.
"Throughout the year we recognize five programs that are community-minded and that have an equipment need," says Ken McMahon, GM of CenturyLink. "They were given $1,000. And today we're recognizing the grand prize winner, with a prize of $5,000."
The folks from the Suns and CenturyLink were on hand at a pep rally at the high school today to surprise students and staff with the big check.
McMahon says Westwood students were chosen because they were committed to their community. "A lot of these student athletes give back in basketball clinics, they help in food kitchens, and they also have an equipment need."
