MESA, Ariz. -- The storm system that moved into Arizona Friday night drenched the Valley on Saturday, not only canceling and delaying major events but also causing significant damage in some areas.

An apartment complex at Alma School Road and Main Street in Mesa was hit particularly hard.

"I thought a freight train drove across the roof," resident Jaynessa Campbell said.

The storm ripped shingles off the roof, uprooted several trees, and flipped over a hot tub.

Residents even reported seeing a funnel cloud, which was one of several sightings across the Valley.

Derek Lard was disappointed to see the tree he has grown up with lying on the ground.

"I have like five or six pictures in front of it," he said. "Me and my friends always hang out by it and stuff."

But residents said they are glad no one was injured.

"We were kind of like, 'What's going on?' But nobody was hurt so we're good," Campbell said.
