PHOENIX -- A Valley woman launched her business so she could work from home and be with her kids. Little did she know what a sweet (and salty) success story would result!
Gilbert resident Raven Thomas is the owner of Painted Pretzel. She said she always wanted to show her sons the importance of pursuing their dreams, so she pursued her own. She launched The Painted Pretzel, which sells delicious and decadent chocolate-covered pretzels.
Raven says she quickly realized that she couldn't keep up with the huge demand for her product, so she decided to go on the TV show "Shark Tank" to get more capital.
Before her appearance, she had $140,000 in orders that hadn't been filled. Her merchandise was available in Neiman Marcus, and she had a $2 million deal with Sam's Club that she had to walk away from because she didn't have the funds to fulfill the order.
Impressed with Raven's success and passion, Shark Tank's Mark Cuban was quick to offer her $100,000 for 25 percent, which she accepted.
After the show aired, her sales skyrocketed. "After Shark Tank, everything just went crazy," she says. Raven expects to reach $1.15 million to $1.50 million in revenue this year.
"It was a huge blessing to have this opportunity," she says.
Raven explained to 3TV's Javier Soto that she started small. "I decided I would try to give them as Christmas gifts to my family and friends, and they just loved them," she says.
