PHOENIX – A Utah fugitive wanted for numerous sex crimes against children was arrested in South Phoenix Monday morning.

Roberto Serrano, 39, was wanted in Utah by the Orem Department of Public Safety on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and two counts of rape of a child.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the alleged sexual acts occurred on a weekly basis over a four-year period and the victims were under the age of 10.

When police went to interview Serrano, he fled Utah. A warrant for his arrest was issued in December.

The U.S. Marshals Service in Utah contacted deputies in Arizona, who developed information regarding Serrano's location.

Serrano was found working at a scrap metal yard in the area of 19th Avenue and Durango in Phoenix. Deputy U.S. marshals and Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force members took him into custody without incident.

"There are no words to describe how repugnant the acts are that Robert Serrano is accused of committing on these children," U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said. "He needed to be located and arrested quickly, and he was."
