TEMPE – Baby Gabriel's mother has "a lot of regrets."
That is what Tammi Smith, who spoke with 23-year old Elizabeth Johnson in jail on Wednesday, says. Smith also talked to the media.

Smith and her husband had wanted to adopt the boy before his disappearance last month but now they are persons of interest in the investigation because police think they know more than they are sharing.

Johnson is accused of kidnapping her 8-month old last month, then taking him to San Antonio, Texas, and giving him away to a couple she just met.

Logan McQueary is the baby's father. Police believe Johnson took off because McQueary would not sign away his rights to baby Gabriel. Investigators say she is not cooperating.

Police are now asking that anyone with any information call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (210-224-7867). Tips can also be submitted online at www.sacrimestoppers.com.

The San Antonio Police Department has opened a missing person investigation into the disappearance of 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson.

Gabriel was last seen Dec. 26 in San Antonio.

Investigators said his mother, 23-year-old Elizabeth Johnson, drove there from her home in Tempe, stayed about a week, then took a bus to Florida without Gabriel. She was arrested Dec. 30 in Miami Beach and returned to Arizona to face kidnapping and child abuse charges.
