PHOENIX -- Financial-services company USAA is looking to increase its already substantial presence in Phoenix with 1,000 new hires.
Those jobs will be available as the San Antonio-based Fortune 500 company expands its Phoenix campus. Construction is underway with an anticipated completion date of August 2014.
Phase one of the project will bring the Phoenix campus, which is located at Interstate 17 and Happy Valley Road, to about 1 million square feet.
USAA already employs 3,200 people. The company expected to continue its expansion into 2015, with an additional 5,000 employees.
USAA specializes in financial services for military members and their families.
Most of the employees at the Phoenix campus are dedicated to customer service. About a third of the company's Phoenix employees are veterans or spouses of veterans. A company spokesman said USAA is committed to hiring veterans hopes to maintain its percentage of veteran employees as it grows.
While military service is a requirement for initial USAA membership, customers can pass those memberships to their children and grandchildren. The descendents do not have to be members of the military themselves. The company's tagline is, "Start a family tradition of savings."
The new positions span all levels of insurance, banking, investments and financial services.
USAA has been in Phoenix since 2001.
