PHOENIX -- A pair of officer-involved accidents backed up traffic in the Valley Friday afternoon.

According to a witness, a police officer was responding to an accident when he was hit by a car while driving through the intersection at 19th Avenue and Greenway.

The officer’s vehicle wound up on its side, while the officer was taken to a local hospital.

At least one other vehicle was involved in the crash, and multiple people were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

A second officer-involved accident happened a little earlier in the day on the westbound Loop 101 near Cave Creek Road.

A DPS officer was reportedly on his way home for the night when his motorcycle rear-ended an SUV.

The officer suffered several broken bones, while rush hour traffic was backed up for miles.
