SAN LUIS, Ariz. -- A man and woman from Somerton, Ariz. were arrested this week after they allegedly tried to smuggle more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Melissa Lopez Delgado, 22, and Briayan Efrain B. Ramirez-Garcia, 20, were taken into custody Tuesday at the Port of San Luis.
The couple was crossing the border in a Ford sedan when they were selected for additional inspection.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers discovered that Delgado and Ramirez-Garcia were concealing methamphetamine on their bodies.
Delgado allegedly had drugs wrapped around her thighs, while Ramirez-Garcia had drugs wrapped around his waist, thighs and calves.
The methamphetamine and the vehicle were seized, while Delgado and Ramirez-Garcia were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
