PHOENIX (AP) -- A July 14 trial has been set for a man accused of fatally shooting a 16-year-old boy during an attempted robbery in 2012 at a west Phoenix park.
Authorities say Vincent Quimayousie, 20, killed Andrew Murphy in September 2012 after Quimayousie pointed a handgun at Murphy's younger sisters and demanded money from them.
Investigators say Murphy was fatally shot when he protected his sisters by confronting Quimayousie and stepping in front of his gun.
Quimayousie is accused of running away from the scene and trying to rob another person at the park before the shooting.
He has acknowledged he was near Marivue Park at 55th Avenue and Osborn Road on the night of the killing, but denied involvement in it.
He has pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted robbery, aggravated assault and armed robbery charges.
