TOLLESON, Ariz. -- Tolleson police bust a ring of battery thieves.

Early Thursday morning, officers responded to an alarm call at the McCrossan construction and equipment company.  They arrived to find a vehicle parked outside, loaded with large batteries. They also saw signs of a break-in, and soon discovered three suspects still at the scene, trying to remove batteries from commercial equipment located inside the secured business yard.

Police arrested 19 year old Derek Odle, 23 year old Zachary Adams, both from Tonopah, and a 17 year old juvenile male from Buckeye. The suspects were transported to the Tolleson Police Station. They all face charges of burglary.

Police believe this isn't the first time the trio has hit. During interviews with the suspects, detectives were able to link them to a string of battery burglaries in several cities around the valley, including Tolleson, Peoria, and Phoenix.

The two adult suspects were booked into the 4th Avenue Jail. The juvenile suspect has been released to his parents.

The investigation is continuing, since police believe the crew is responsible for other burglaries where batteries have been taken.  Detectives are coordinating with other west valley agencies, including police from Buckeye and Surprise, to see if they if there’s any connection with similar cases.

The stolen batteries are valued at well over $100 each. And police say since the thieves are just cutting wires and yanking out the batteries, victims are also facing high repair costs to fix the damage.
