PHOENIX -- Have your glasses and silverware lost their luster? Ever wondered how to make your dishwasher clean your dishes better?
Home Depot Expert Debbie Hernandez had some tips for us on Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona.
"In all of the new dishwashing detergents, they've taken out something called phosphates," says Hernandez. "That doesn't give you a nice shiny finish."
Before you start your dishwasher cycle, make sure to run the hot water. Once it's really hot, then start your cycle while the water's running, then turn the water off once it's started.
You also can use Affresh dishwashing tablets. "Stick it inside your detergent reservoir, close it, and run the whole cycle once a month," Hernandez says.
She also recommends Lemi-Shine and Finish All-In-One Tablets.
And how about your garbage disposal? Many folks complain about a smell, but that can be easily handled.
One idea is to pour in a citrus garbage disposal cleaner. "You're going to put a little in there, run the disposal for two seconds and let it sit overnight, and that's going to really refresh the disposal.".
To sharpen your disposal blades and keep it fresh, Hernandez advises throwing lemons, oranges, or ice cubes into the disposal.
