NOGALES - Over 4,500 pounds of marijuana was busted amongst a shipment of vegetables at the Nogales port of entry.
Officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized a tractor trailer and found 4,522 pounds of pot hidden among shipments of cucumbers and bell peppers on Monday afternoon.
The shipment originated in Sinaloa, Mexico, according to CBP, and was bound for Nogales, Arizona. The estimated street value of the pot is $10.8 million.
Officers say they noticed something strange on the trailer while scanning it with their x-ray unit. The 21-year-old driver of the truck, a citizen of Mexico, was taken into custody.
