GILBERT, Ariz. – A third-grade student is responsible for a threatening note directed toward a Gilbert school, according to officials.

On Tuesday, Gilbert police said the threat was directed toward Greenfield Elementary School students and a teacher. The document was printed from a computer in a classroom at the school near Greenfield and Elliot roads.

The parent of a third-grader came forward early Wednesday morning and told school officials that it was his child who wrote the note, according to Nicole Richardson, a spokeswoman with Gilbert Public Schools.

Richardson said the issue was "resolved."

Principal Colin Kelly said the student will receive the appropriate consequences following district guidelines.

"I can assure you that there is no threat to any students or staff members," Kelly said in an email to parents on Wednesday.

Officials wouldn't elaborate on what the threat said.
