TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Tempe Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying and locating a hit-and-run suspect.
Police said a 55-year-old man was riding his bicycle to work westbound at Fifth Street and Siesta Lane at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle that was making a left turn.
Sgt. Steve Carbajal said the suspect vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision without providing information or notifying police.
A witness in the area told police that he saw a white pickup truck stopped in the roadway near the location of impact. Police do not know if the truck was involved in the collision.
Police collected evidence at the scene, including numerous broken pieces of what appeared to be a bug shield, possibly from the suspect vehicle, according to Carbajal.
The victim sustained very serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Anyone with any information about the suspect vehicle or driver is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
