TEMPE, Ariz. -- Police are searching for a man who they say shot and killed someone at an apartment complex early Saturday morning.

The complex is at Southern Avenue and Rural Road.

The suspect is 28-year-old Richard Tyrone Johnson. Police said he is driving a 1996 gold Cadillac with Arizona license plate AHB-2105. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Johnson shot and killed a 30-year-old man just before 1 a.m. at 3409 S Rural Rd., according to Sgt. Steve Carbajal with the Tempe Police Dept.

"It was quick. It was like pow, pow, pow, pow. Very rapid. Like, he didn't even try to take his hand off the trigger," said a witness who didn't want to be identified for fear of retaliation.

He said the 30-year-old man had been calling Johnson all day, asking where his girlfriend was.

"We just heard her screaming. At first I thought it was her that was shot," the witness said. "Once I got to the end of the staircase, that's when I seen the dude on the ground."

Anyone with information on this incident or Johnson’s current whereabouts should contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-948-6377 (480-WITNESS).

Police have not released the victim's name.
