TEMPE, Ariz. – Tempe police arrested 16 people in a prostitution sting earlier this month.

Police said this particular sting was aimed at reducing the demand for prostitution and those potential johns arrested ranged in age from 27 to 71.

The men were booked on crimes including soliciting prostitution, indecent exposure and drug possession.

Tempe police said this sting took place at a hotel near Priest Drive and Baseline Road.

Police said operations like this help stem the tide of human sex trafficking that often accompanies prostitution.

Police said being proactive about prostitution now could relate to reducing sex trafficking during next year's Super Bowl.

The following suspects were arrested July 8-9:

Jamil Bazzy, 36, possession of drugs

Ernesto Cruz, 50, prostitution solicitation

Thomas Goldstein, 52, prostitution solicitation

Luis Mota. 28, prostitution solicitation

Matthew Berger, 27, prostitution solicitation, indecent exposure

Anthony Curcio, 39, prostitution solicitation

Lakshma Gopidi, 43, prostitution solicitation

Kristopher Olson, 35, prostitution solicitation

Ronald Cicala, 45, prostitution solicitation

John Daniels, 30, prostitution solicitation

Mudit Gupta, 27, prostitution solicitation

Brian Smargiassi, 54, prostitution solicitation

Andre Cole, 39, prostitution solicitation

Matthew Godwin, 28, prostitution solicitation

Robert Kempton, 71, prostitution solicitation

Daniel Swanson, 41, prostitution solicitation
