TEMPE, Ariz. -- Some Tempe residents braved the chilling 28 degrees Saturday morning and participated in the 2nd Annual Polar Bear Plunge.
The event took place at the the pool at The Lakes in Tempe and about 75 participants jumped in, while bundled up observers watched and cheered on.
Organizers say the event is to raise money for Tempe's Adapted Recreation programs such as Tempe's Special Olympics, Buddy Bowling program, Camp Challenge and Fabulous Friday Night dances.
Last year, about $4,200 was raised and event planners think they may have raised more at this year's event.
Even the though the outside temperature was in the high 20s and low 30s, Dianne Brown, a participant, says she'll do it again.
