BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- Mark Anderson, long time owner of the Tempe Improv, was found dead in a Buckeye hotel room Wednesday after being missing for three weeks.
Just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, a housekeeper at the Days Inn off Miller Road found Anderson dead in his room.
The hotel is not confirming how long Anderson was a guest there, only adding to the mystery of where he's been since May 13th. That's the day his wife in Oklahoma first reported him missing, not long after he announced he was shutting down the Tempe Improv.
Anderson blamed a competing venue for the Improv's troubles.
"All of a sudden we discovered another improve franchisee had been working with the booking agent for our club to basically put us out of business," Anderson said on May 8th.
Days later, his wife reported him missing in Oklahoma City, which prompted police to search for him there, and here in the Valley.
She told police he was under a lot of work related stress, and that he'd been acting strangely. Friends say Anderson struggled with mental illness.
Buckeye Police said the medical examiner will determine Anderson's cause of death, and the investigation continues into where he's been, and what brought him to a Buckeye hotel.
