CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A 15-year-old boy who was hit by a pickup truck while riding a scooter in Chandler Monday night has died.
Julian Gonzvar was struck by a southbound vehicle while crossing at the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Knox Road.
The teen was on a scooter and was crossing with two other boys who were on bicycles, according to a spokesman with the Chandler Police Department. The two on the bicycles safely crossed the street.
Julian was unconscious when emergency crews arrived on scene.
"The head injury obviously was very obvious to the first responders on scene and he is listed in critical condition at a local hospital," Detective Seth Tyler said.
Police said the driver was not impaired and was not speeding. Witnesses indicated the truck entered the intersection on a green light.
Julian was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Tyler said there will be no charges filed against the driver.
"This is a terrible tragedy and the driver was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time," Tyler said.
The investigation is ongoing.
