PHOENIX -- A teenage girl was rescued from Buffalo Ridge Park Sunday afternoon after apparently suffering from heat exhaustion, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the mountain at 16th Street and Union Hills Drive is not designated for hiking.

The fire department's technical rescue crews found the teen girl near the top of the mountain.

After conducting a medical evaluation, rescue crews decided the safest way to remove the teen from the mountain was to slowly walk her down, Saavedra said.

The teen was reevaluated by paramedics, and she and her parents refused transportation to the hospital, according to Saavedra.
