SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A teen was rescued from Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve on Sunday after he was injured while riding his mountain bike.

Scottsdale Fire Capt. Danny Ables said the 15-year-old boy was found on the Hackamore Trail in the Browns Ranch area, about 1/2 mile from the trailhead.

Ables said a gator utility vehicle would be used to bring the boy down the mountain and he would be transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance.

The Scottsdale Fire Department is reminding hikers to carry a cellphone and water, and wear proper hiking shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Fire officials also encourage people to let someone know where they will be hiking and when they expect to return home.
