PHOENIX – A 16-year-old girl was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenage boy in west Phoenix earlier this year.

A judge also sentenced Ladajianna Mosley to four years of supervised probation upon her release.

Mosley pleaded guilty to manslaughter and burglary charges in November.

Phoenix police said she shot Raymond Berryman while she was playing around with a stolen gun. She was charged as an adult.

Berryman, 17, was a junior and ROTC member at Tolleson High School.

Police said Mosley, Berryman and a 16-year-old boy burglarized a nearby home where they stole several weapons and other items in March.

Once the three suspects were back at Mosley's home, they began going through the stolen items. Mosley reportedly pulled out one of the stolen handguns and began to play with it. According to police, she thought the gun was unloaded when she pointed it at Berryman and pulled the trigger.

Berryman ran outside with a gunshot wound to his chest and collapsed in the street. He died at an area hospital.

According to police, Mosley and the other teen had planned to hide the firearms and tell investigators that Berryman had been killed in a drive-by shooting. She reportedly decided to tell the truth after being taken to police headquarters.

Mosley was 15 years old at the time of the incident.
